Kolhapur: State finance minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday announced that a memorial of Jivaji Mahale will be built at the base of Satara’s Pratapgad fort.
Pawar placed the state’s interim financial budget on Tuesday. He announced that Rs 66.11 crore will be spent for building a memorial of Sant Jagnade Maharaj at Sudumbre in Maval tehsil of Pune, Rs 102 crore for the first-phase work of building a memorial at the birthplace of martyr Shivram Hari Rajguru at Rajgurunagar, Rs 30 crore for building Rajmata Saibai’s memorial at Pal Khurd in Velhe tehsil at the base of Rajgad and Rs 38 crore for development of Malojiraje Bhonsle’s seat (gadhi) and Hazrat Chand Shah Valibaba Dargah premises in Indapur city.
Jivaji Mahala had saved Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from Sayyad Banda’s sword attack after Shivaji with the help of Wagh Nakh fatally injured Adil Shahi’s general Afzal in battle of Pratapgarh.Jivaji, who came from backward community of barbers, was expert in using dand patta and he was chosen by Shivaji Maharaj as his bodyguard for meeting Afzhal Khan who had Sayyad Banda, also trained in using dand patta, as his bodyguard.
