Joshi had a long and influential career as a vocalist, performing for over 60 years. He received several prestigious Indian awards including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and Bharat Ratna. Joshi mentored many students and helped popularize Hindustani classical music before his death in 2011.
