Jasper Krabbé
Jasper Krabbé (Amsterdam, 1970) is een Nederlandsbeeldend kunstenaar. Hij is onderdeel van de artistieke familie Krabbé en begon zijn carrière in de jaren 1980 als graffitischrijver 'JAZ' op de Amsterdamse straten.

[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]Krabbé begon zijn artistieke carrière in 1984 als graffitischrijver op de Amsterdamse straten onder de naam JAZ.[1][2] Samen met Shoe (Niels Meulman), Jezis, Bandi, Joker en Delta (Boris Tellegen) vormde hij in de jaren tachtig de graffiti-crew genaamd United Street Artists (USA).[3]

[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]Krabbé studeerde in 1992 cum laude af (schilderkunst en grafiek) aan de Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam en aan de Cooper Union New York. Zijn schilderijen reflecteren de herinnering aan plaatsen, gebeurtenissen en individuen, opgedaan tijdens reizen naar onder andere Cuba, de Stille Zuidzee en Nieuw-Zeeland. In zijn tekeningen maakt Krabbé vaak gebruik van reeds bestaand materiaal zoals enveloppen, pakpapier en pagina's uit boeken of encyclopedieën. Months of stillness and solitude in the studio. No travelling, no trips to faraway places, no research on location, no filming for a new documentary series on a famous painter. In 2020 the rhythm that has driven Jeroen Krabbé’s artistic practice for decades – travelling for film and television work and then incorporating his impressions from those travels into paintings in his studio – came to a standstill.He shut himself away in his studio and created a new series of paintings which are perhaps best described as studio portraits.

Jeroen Krabbé’s paintings usually look outward – at the landscapes of Gauguin, at his surroundings in Dalfsen, at his family history.
